Carlton is a little slice of heaven! Everyone who meets him is instantly smitten as he 
has this beautiful air of sweetness about him. This is what his foster mom says about Carlton: “He is housebroken, curious, and not hindered by his blindness in the least! He can hear very well and already knows and responds to his name. Recently I have discovered that he LOVES to hug AND give kisses! When I sit on the floor with him, he comes toddling over and put his legs up on my shoulders, literally hugging me and then starts licking my ear! It is the sweetest thing!
He is also starting to act frisky 
and silly. He just found his voice and will now bark a little when the other dogs bark. He is very much an explorer. One night I woke up and went out to the kitchen to find him sleeping on my couch! He had figured out how to get up there and made himself right at home in the corner and was peacefully slumbering away. He gets along fabulously with all three of my other gentle Cockers (but at the same time will not tolerate it when they try to steal his food!)”

Meet Cricket. This adorable and gorgeous girl was found wandering the streets and was picked up, by good samaritans. They saw mammary glands hanging down and thought she might be pregnant. Thoughtfully, they took her to a vet immediately, and learned that she is NOT pregnant. Cricket does have a host of health issues, including a mammary infection. We are going to have her spayed next week, and take care of all of her medical needs. She was not microchipped and signs were placed around the area and social media was used to see if anyone claimed her. So far, no one has come forward.
She is very sweet and mellow and gets along well with everyone.

Her shelter notes said she has luxating patellas on both back legs, but she walks fine, gingerly, but she can walk.
We love Cocker Spaniels, don’t get us wrong, but unscrupulous breeders make our blood boil! Meet Carly. The family that used her to breed, decided they had enough of her, and dumped her at the shelter. One of our volunteers found her in pretty bad shape; an irritated neck from a collar that was too small, matted fur, smelly ears (probably an ear infection), small tumors and a huge growth, low on her belly. Many times, when a female dog isn’t spay early, they develop tumors. Below is a photo of the giant growth. On top of everything else, she had one cherry eye that was never fixed.
The huge growth turned out to be an inguinal hernia. When she was opened up, her small intestine and spleen were teetering on falling into the opening. Carly was spayed and had 4 small mammary tumors removed to be biopsied. Finally, she had the growth under her left eye removed and the cherry eye tacked down. Dr. Card did a beyond amazing job and we cannot thank her enough for her time, care, patience and love. Carly is resting comfortably and seems to be in good spirits.

Look at these adorable faces, Rhett and Scarlett! These gorgeous Cockers were found together dumped on a street in Tulare, CA. A good samaritan took them to the Bakersfield shelter. Second Chance Cocker Rescue scooped both of them up as they appeared to be inseparable. It is not often that we get young bonded pairs. After taking them to the vet, it appeared that Scarlett, 2 to 3 years old, had had many litters and most likely the people who dumped her 
didn’t want her or her mate anymore. Rhett appears to be around 4 years old. Besides Rhett having an ear infection, both are in good health.

A week ago I was just a number. I long number behind bars in a cold, scary place. People walked by and laughed at me, but I wasn’t sure why. I’m cute and lovable. I was hoping one of them would take me out of the kennel to play with me. I prayed with my little paws for a way out. The stars must have been aligned because a really nice lady came, took me in her arms and brought me to a warm and comfy home. I heard her talking to some others, saying I have something called a prolapsed rectum. I’m not sure what that means, but I do know that I’m not that comfortable around my back side. I may look silly sitting like a frog, but it’s easier for my tushie. I heard her say they are going to fix me up so I will feel good and look good. I’m so happy to have this second chance to have a happy, healthy life. I promise to keep you posted!
At the tender age of 4 months, Teddy Bear popped a cherry eye. As soon as the family found out how much it cost to fix, they decided to give him away. Second Chance Cocker Rescue could not have been more delighted! We will fix him up good as new, and find him a family that cares enough to take care of him properly.
