Other Types of Planned Gifts

  • Living trusts. In most states, a will must go through a probate process that can often be expensive and time-consuming. By creating a revocable living trust, you can avoid probate while naming Second Chance Cocker Rescue, Inc. as a beneficiary of the trust, much as you would by making a bequest in a will.
  • Life insurance policies. Insurance can often provide an inexpensive way for you to leave a significant gift. If your existing policy is no longer needed for its initial purpose (such as your children’s education), you can make a gift of it to Second Chance Cocker Rescue, Inc with tax deductions equal to its cash/replacement value. If you are younger, this is a way to make a larger gift than you otherwise may have thought possible.
  • Charitable remainder annuity trust. This allows you to make a gift and retain income during your lifetime. The annuity trust provides a fixed income for the rest of your life. You can name another individual to receive income, as well. The principal passes to Second Chance Cocker Rescue, Inc after the last income beneficiary dies. This trust also provides a charitable tax deduction and avoids capital gains taxes when the appreciated assets are sold.
  • Charitable remainder unitrust. Like the annuity trust, the unitrust provides life incomes, tax savings and avoidance of capital gains taxes. It differs in that the income is based on the value of the trust assets as revalued annually.
  • The “Totten” trust this is the simplest of all trusts and is accomplished by simply signing a card at your bank that leaves an account “in trust for” Second Chance Cocker Rescue, Inc. This action is revocable and the assets of the account are yours for the rest of your life, passing to Second Chance Cocker Rescue, Inc free of probate after your death.
