Holiday Shopping

Now that is time for holiday shopping we wanted to introduce you to a new way to help SCCR without costing you a dime. If you are a big Amazon.com shopper like we are you can use Smile.Amazon.com and by selecting Second Chance as your preferred charity you will accumulate .5% of each purchase to be sent to us as a donation.

If you have been an EasyCause shopper for SCCR then we are encouraging our supporters to change over to Smile. Amazon.com. We get a larger percentage and they are more open about what we have earned each quarter

Our Pampered Chef Fundraiser

Katie 3Katie thinks that everyone should be cooking more, more dog treats that is. She wants to announce a new fundraiser we are doing with Pampered Chef. The fundraiser goes from now until Sept 15th.

Details:
-Everyone should have their orders direct shipped to them (because Katie is not doing it for you!).
-We get a % for every order you place.
-Everyone who orders will receive by email a receipt when the show is submitted.
-Checks will not be accepted on this show
-The sales tax is 8%
-There is a free Guest Special with a $65 purchase!

Katie also wanted to share this recipe for SnickerPoodles, dog treats with you all. she says your dog will love these cookies but she would rather you mail them all to her! They are great because they are made with ingredients you already have in your pantry and anything you don’t have Pampered Chef will.

SnickerPoodles!

Ingredients:
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup agave (the original recipe called for honey, but I prefer agave)
2 eggs
3 ¾ cups white flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ cup cornmeal
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Directions:

1. Mix vegetable oil, shortening, honey and eggs.
2. Beat well.
3. Add flour, soda and cream of tartar.
4. Knead dough until mixed well.
5. Shape dough by rounded teaspoons into balls.
6. Mix the cornmeal and cinnamon together in a bowl.
7. Roll balls in mixture.
8. Place 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet.
9. Press with a fork.
10. Bake for 8-10 minutes at 400F.

2014 Annual Letter To Our Supporters

DorieThis year, with your unfailing support, we rescued over 140 dogs and supported 34 dogs in loving sanctuary homes. We created our new “Team Lead” positions which allow us to expand into new geographical areas covering the state of California more completely than ever. We welcomed four new team leads into our organization and they are proudly leading SCCR rescue efforts in their locations.  They have helped us rescue dogs from hopeless situations giving them not just hope but medical attention, loving families and a promise that we will always be there if they need us.

IMAG0199Buddy and Bo’s mom passed away when on vacation leaving them at the pet sitters with no instructions on what to do with them so the sitter took them to a shelter in Sacramento. Even though Buddy is a senior with health problems and Bo is snippy with strangers we found them a home with two mom’s who think they are absolutely perfect. Tiny was “rescued” by an independent rescuer who abandoned her in a foster home after pulling her from a shelter in Los Angeles. We stepped in, got her medical care, surgery and found her a sanctuary home where we will make sure she is properly cared for, for the rest of her life. That is what real rescue is and we won’t settle for anything less

AnnieTalia was hit by a car and sitting in a Bakersfield shelter with a shattered pelvis when we found her. With your support we were able to pay for the $4,000 surgery, nurse her through her recovery and find her a home where she is now the reigning princess. Annie was pulled from the Stockton shelter. At 3 years old she was already completely blind from cataracts. We asked you to help us give her sight back and you answered without hesitation. One surgery and six weeks recovery later her dad tells us “It’s like a whole new world opened for her.”

Gilly-4We are looking forward to this coming year, here at SCCR. We will be launching our new HALO Cocker Spaniel Registry in February. It will offer Cocker Spaniel owners another option to ensure their babies are safe when they are gone.

We will continue to grow without sacrificing the quality of work we do and we are proud to have you with us every step. We thank you for being an important part of Second Chance and helping us save lives,

Quiggly

0623131919fQuiggly’s dad was elderly and when he passed away at home the paramedics did not know that Quiggly was in the back yard. They left without notifying anyone about him. Lucky for Quiggly the neighbor noticed him and started throwing food over the fence and dripping her hose over so he would have food and water until she could get him out of there.

0623131919aHer friend Frank agreed to keep him until we could pick him up on Saturday. When we met Frank and Quiggly in Elk Grove after our annual picnic he was stressed and confused from everything that had happened to him. He quickly settled down in his foster home and immediately made friends with their other foster girl, Sarah Jane. He and Sarah Jane would play and play and play for hours.

She Was Hit By A Car And Her Pelvis Was Shattered

photoTalia was hit by a car and taken to the shelter.  We knew when we got the call that her vet bills could be high and we didn’t have much to spare but she was in so much pain when we got the call we could not say no.
According to her x-rays her pelvis was shattered in several places and she needed surgery asap.  But her little face was so trusting even when we had to move her and it hurt her.
SOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAhe will be on bed rest for six weeks with acupuncture treatments for the nerve damage she has sustained. The estimate for her surgery and follow up care is about $4,000 but we couldn’t say no. She as sweet as they get and trusts that we will take care of her.

It Is Time For Our Spring Fundraiser!

Lulu1Lulu is completely blind at 2 years old from cataracts. We think she deserves to see for the rest of her life so we are going to make it happen. We are so grateful for your support that allows us to give Lulu this precious gift.

This year for every $25 donation towards Lulu’s cataract surgery we will enter you 15 times in our Spring Fundraiser drawing. We are giving away $500, $250 and $250 at each of our Annual Picnics. The first drawing will be at our Sacramento annual picnic on June 22 and the second will be at the Santa Barbara picnic on July 20th. Don’t forget to reserve your spot at the Picnic!
