Susie Loves Belly Rubs

susie2Completely blind this poor mite was found by a good Samaritan wandering, frantic and disoriented by a Sacramento Marin. When they spoke to people near by they were told she had been seen being dumped out of a car that raced off.  They were afraid she would fall in the water and drown so they took her home and called us. Susie, turned out to be about 4 years old, not spayed and already had mature cataracts and glaucoma. We need to get her eyes evaluated to see what, if anything, can be done for her sight.

In the mean time her foster mom reports that she is alert, incredibly sweet and loving.  She LOVES belly rubs and to be in your lap and will give  you endless kisses if you let her!

Donations towards Susie’s medical bills.

Another Happy Ending!

Trigger and Kaitlyn

We have renamed Archie, “Trigger” and it just fits his bouncy personality perfectly. I take him on walks every day and he has so much energy he loves playing ball all the time with the family…In between catching the ball and bringing us all of my little sister’s stuffed animals, he loves to catch flies! He totally runs around the house for an hour or so a day trying to catch flies, and is even successful sometimes!…He sleeps at the foot of my bed every night and we snuggle in the morning.  Well, we snuggle for as long as I keep scratching him :)…He gets along great with my other dogs, and even plays with our hound, who is 4 times his size.  It is so funny to watch him put his little butt in the air then just bolt and my other dog chases him! They have fun together… I love coming home to him each night and every day my mom calls me to tell me the funny thing he did while I was at school! I love him and am blessed to have him.

Merry Christmas!
Kaitlin and Trigger

From Pound Puppy to Service Dog

Dresden, is standing proud in his Service Dog In Training vest. Not too long ago he was abandoned in a shelter just another unwanted dog waiting do be adopted or die depending on how crowed the shelter was that day.  Well, it was his lucky day because we saw him and snatched him up. Then his luck continued because his foster mom Alicia fell in love and decided to make him a permanent addition to her life. Now he is repaying her by becoming her service dog.

He is learning how to go with Alicia into stores, coffee houses, friends houses, and, his personal favorite, travel with her and stay in hotels. To be a service dog he must pass his Canine Good Citizenship test and learn two things that help his mom with her disability. He is learning to pick up her keys and other items she drops and to wake her up when he hears a smoke alarm or the clock alarm. Next he will be taught to open and close drawers, closets, and many other things.

We are very proud of Dresden and the work  he does. He is a shining example of what rescue dogs are capable of.

Bennett

Bennett’s Story: Hi Everyone!  I was just a little bitty pup of 5 weeks when I made the long trip with lots of other youngsters from Arkansas to California.  The human with us thought he’d make bunches of money out here by selling us, but he didn’t know that was the year that it became illegal to sell pups under 8 weeks of age.  Some of my travel-mates were real sick so Animal Control gathered us all up and took us some place safe.  That’s when they called Rescue  and I became a Rescue Puppy!  My new mom was a Rescue Volunteer and she fell head over heels in love with my little freckled face right away and knew that I was meant to be with her forever.  My mommy is a pet photographer, so I’ve learned how to pose lots.  This picture with Santa is one of my favorite memories and I hope it brings peace, love and joy to whoever you send your card to.  Photo by Peggy Mundell, dogbreedz.net.

Inside the card reads: “Santa Knows Who Has Been Naughty and Nice!”  Bennett’s story is  on the back

Dresdan

Dresden was adopted by Alicia two years ago. After fostering several dogs for Second Chance, Dresden showed up and they fell in love. Dresden happily shares her with three cats and a lizard. He has helped Alicia raise many a litter of foster kittens. In addition to being a perfect subject for her photography, Dresden is currently in training to be her service dog.  Photo by Alicia Flores, peeshposh@gmail.com

Inside the card reads: “Happy Holidays and a Wonderful New Year!”  Dresden’s story is  on the back.

Duffy

Duffy was rescued seven years ago as a scared, shy overly sensitive baby boy.  His stay at the local shelter traumatized him making it hard for Duffy to settle in and trust any of his foster homes or trial adopters.  After being returned by three foster homes and two potential adopters Duffy managed to talk Elizabeth into keeping him. They have both been very happy with the arrangement ever since. Photo by Alicia Flores, peeshposh@gmail.com

Inside the card reads: “Seasons Greetings and Pass The Treats!“, Duffy’s story is on the back.

Connor

Connor was a youngster when he found himself sitting in a cage at his local shelter after his family decided he was too much for them to handle.  He was pretty nervous about all the commotion but what was worse was the way all the dogs around him were disappearing and not coming back. Luckily he was spotted by a rescue and grabbed up before his time was up. When he first met the Martins he wasn’t really what they were looking for but Barbara could not get him out of her mind. A few days later she called and told us she could not live without him. He was delighted! He is now living the good life with the Martins going for longs walks on the beach every day. Photo by Felicia Saunders, bubnbrat@cox.net

Inside the card reads: “And may your next year be filled with loads of treats and long walks on the beach!“,  Connor’s story is on the back.

Lost Home, Bags Packed, No Where to Go

We got in a new sweet senior today, Opie. He is looking for a new home because his dad is too elderly to take care of him. At 9 years old, he is a sweet older man who still enjoys his daily 2-mile walk and loves his people. He does have a few old man quirks…he gets grumpy if he is disturbed when he is sleeping and needs someone who is home a lot. Except for a twice-daily thyroid pill, he is very healthy. Opie is looking for a foster home while he looks for his permanent home.  Anyone out there willing to take this boy in? His bag is all packed and he is ready to go.

Happy Boy
