Dante – Our Newest SCCR Global Rescue Dog

Meet our newest SCCR Global Rescue Dog, Dante!!!

Barely surviving on the streets of Tijuana, Dante was found by a kindhearted person who called us for help. Poor Dante clearly has had a hard life as he is completely emaciated and fully or partially blind. We have no idea how such a handsome boy found himself on the streets of Mexico, but we are committed to helping him.

The first thing we have to do is get Dante to California and get him seen by our vet. We are looking for a volunteer to give Dante a ride from San Diego to our vet in Corona. We also need a foster home for Dante so we can learn more about his personality and make sure he is healthy before he goes to his forever home.

If you can open your home and heart to this pup in need, please contact SCCR directly at (805) 687-4674 or fill out an application.

If you can’t foster but would still like to help, any donations to Dante’s medical care would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to donate at our dedicated SCCR Global Rescue Fund or via our PayPal donation page.

Happy Birthday, Elizabeth!!!

It’s time to celebrate!

Today is the birthday of our founder, and CEO of Second Chance Cocker Rescue! Elizabeth Mazzetti has spent the last 26 years rescuing, rehoming, and rehabilitating hundreds of Cocker Spaniels, and even more than a few “wanna be Cocker Spaniels”! Through all the ups and downs of life, Elizabeth has never missed a beat, and has continued her efforts to save every single Cocker that she could.

We would like to honor her tireless efforts to help animals in need by raising funds to help build our Sanctuary in Jamestown, CA. Elizabeth is personally overseeing all of the construction up there, and with her drive and guidance, we will have dogs living up on the property very soon! This has been a dream of hers and with your help, we can make it a reality!!!

Please consider donating to Second Chance Cocker Rescue and help continue Elizabeth’s legacy of saving lives one dog at a time! No donation is too small and all are greatly appreciated!

We all love you EB! We respect your vision, and your passion for saving animals everywhere! Thank you for all that you do!!!

From Kicks to Cuddles

Winston was rescued recently from a terrible situation that no dogs deserves!

His rescuer knew him when he had a loving family and a great home. Then three years ago he moved in with an Ex boyfriend and his life turned into a nightmare. When she found him he was covered with filth, matted all over, nails growing into his pads, ear infections, cherry eye and bad teeth. The little girl at the house came over and kicked Winston. When she was reprimanded by our rescuer she said with a shrug, Daddy does it all the time.

Our rescuer didn’t waste a second. She and Winston marched out of the house and she called us.

We made Winston appointments for a grooming and vet visit to see what else we can expect. He will need a dental, cherry eye surgery and treating those ears at the very least. Please help donate for his medical costs. For all he has been through he is remarkably sweet and trusting. He is a bit reserved now but he just needs a good home and lots of TLC.

Winston is 11 years old and great with cats, kids ( believe it or not) and other dogs. He is currently in foster in Sonora, CA and eligible for our Sanctuary program.

If you would like to give Winston a loving home, please fill out our adoption application.

Lucky In Love

Meet our new Second Chance Cocker, Lucky!

Lucky is a 11 year old cocker spaniel that his family has had since he was a puppy.  Lucky loves being around people, playing, running around and getting attention! He is reactive towards other dogs and would prefer to be an only dog. When Lucky gets excited he might potty a bit, he just can’t contain his happiness. Poor Lucky has been dealing chronic ear infections. His right ear has not gotten better and may require surgery to have his ear canal removed. Unfortunately, his family can’t afford to pay for his medical expenses anymore so they asked us for help. We are looking for a loving home for Lucky to spend his golden years in.

If you’d like to donate to help cover Lucky’s medical costs, any amount would be appreciated.

Lucky is currently in Lakewood, CA. If you would like to give Lucky a loving home, please fill out our adoption application.

The SCCR Global Rescue Dogs Are Here!

They are FINALLY here!!! The 5 cockers spaniels that we helped save from overseas touched down at LAX yesterday. Check out the video of their arrival below! Waiting for them to get through customs and exit the terminal was the longest wait of my life. I was so anxious to see their little faces!!! Can you hear my excitement when their crates were wheeled out to us?!

After over 24 hours of travel, everyone got out of their crates to stretch their legs, go potty, and get some water. Then it was back on the road to their temporary home. All 5 dogs are currently getting lots of love and attention while they decompress and are awaiting a checkup with our vet on Wednesday. All 5 will get an exam and make sure they have all the vaccinations they need. The little pups, Jin and Orchid, will need to be neutered/spayed soon too.

We are learning more about them every day. Right off the plane, it was obvious that Lily is the most outgoing of the bunch. She was giving EVERYONE kisses. Jin is a velcro boy and is very sweet. Orchid is a bit nervous and still really likes having her momma with her to help her feel more secure. Momma Iris is very gentle and is great at comforting her babies. Then there is our big guy, Baloo. I think I love him most of all. He’s huge and very mellow. He loves to eat, so his new home will have to watch his diet. Baloo has the best snore! It was so comforting to hear him snoring in the car as we drove last night. I really truly love them all and so will you!!

We are taking applications and have a waitlist going for these 5 wonderful cockers! If you are interested in adopting one of them, please fill out an application. Please be aware, all of these dogs have come from a situation where they had no training, very little socializing until their rescue, and have no idea how to really be a house dog. We are looking for exceptionally patient and loving homes who aren’t afraid to get messy and put in the work to help these dogs live their best lives.

Can’t adopt? That’s ok! We are still looking for donations for our SCCR Global Rescue Fund! Please consider donating to help us reach our $2,500 goal and to help cover the costs of their vet care. Thank you for your support!!

Meet Lily – One of our Global Rescue Dogs!

Let’s say hello to one of our Second Chance Cocker Rescue – Global Rescue Fund dogs, Lily!!!

Lily is a sweet little 1 year old girl that is being saved from terrible conditions associated with the Asian dog meat trade and is on her way to us. In one short week, Lily and her 4 friends will be on US soil and on their way to loving forever homes!

We are so lucky to have the opportunity to help Lily and the other 4 cocker spaniels that we will be welcoming into our rescue! Getting Lily and her friends to us is no small feat! It is taking a team of people and loads of resources to coordinate their rescue. We are looking at a starting cost of $500 per dog to get them spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and transported from Asia to Los Angeles. We have about half of the funds raised already, but we still have a long way to go before we reach our $2,500 goal! We can not do this with out your help!

We have created the Second Chance Cocker Rescue – Global Rescue Fund to provide for the care of these and all future Cocker Spaniels that we rescue from overseas. If you would like to donate to our international rescue efforts, it would be greatly appreciated. All money donated to this fund will go directly to these dogs.

We are truly blessed to have your support! Our SCCR friends are the reason we can now make a bigger impact in the world of animal rescue and save more Cocker Spaniels!
