In this crazy, strange, and difficult time, we are called to come together and hold each other up. Just like every rescue, we find ourselves in dire need of our friends’ help and support. On this Giving Tuesday NOW, we have four wonderful dogs who desperately need your help!

Our handsome trio is just chilling at our wonderful boarding facility while they wait for their forever home.
Jackson, Halbert, and Yogi are all in need for dentals in the near future. They are all older boys, so we can probably expect some extractions for them. Jackson also has a wart above his eye that will be removed when he’s under anesthesia.
We are looking about $2000 in vet bills for all 3 boys. On this #GivingTuesdayNOW, we are asking for your help in getting these boys their dentals.

Our sweet Bodhi boy is happily enjoying life in his foster home. He does have a few medical procedures coming up before he will be ready to go to his forever home.
Bodhi will be undergoing oral surgery very soon to clean out the infection in his mouth and to remove 3 dead teeth. This is a pretty big procedure and we are looking at a $1300 vet bill for all of it.
On this #GivingTuesdayNOW, we are asking for your help in getting Bodhi the quality medical care he needs and deserves. We are dedicated to providing the best care for our dogs and we can’t do that without your support. Every dollar makes a difference in helping us reach our $1300 goal.

Who’s ready for some more good news?!?

Who remembers Bodhi? The pup we pulled from the shelter in Northern CA at the beginning of April with the mouth tumor?
Well, he has been seen by our vet and it turns out the sore we were told was cancer is just a super nasty infection. Now that’s not great news and he will need antibiotics and a few months to recover, but it’s not cancer and it’s treatable!!! Yay!!
Bodhi is resting and being loved on in his foster home and will be ready for a forever home once he has a clean bill of health. Bodhi is a sweet, social, smart 3 year old little boy! He loves kids, cats, dogs, and just about everyone. He knows tons of commands like dance and come!
Bodhi is currently in foster in San Jose, CA. If you have fallen in love with Bodhi and would like to adopt him, please fill out our adoption application!

We have made a huge amount of progress on the Sanctuary. The kennels are built and the floors are tiled. We are painting the outsides now around the rainy days. Insulating and dry walling the kennels is on the list to do. We have the permit and plans for the parking lot. As soon as the county approves the drawings, we can start work on that. The next big project is getting the electricity down to the kennels. We are looking into adding the Solar power in now instead of waiting since the propane and electric bills are so high. It will pay for is self very quickly.
We have decided that a small herd of goats is the best way to maintain the grass and brush growth on the property. We have been promised one youngster, Chaz, as soon as he is old enough and have our eye on a couple more if we can talk their mom into letting them go. We will build a permanent goat and chicken area for them to live in. It is close to the dog kennels and you can come and see them when you come to visit. Maybe we will have some extra chicken eggs for you to take home.We will also be moving in several feral cats to live in the barn very soon as our rodent patrol. We want them settled in and working before the dogs get here. Some of these cats are more feral than others so you might get to sit in the rocking chair on the with a cat in your lap while you relax and take in the property. It is our favorite lunch spot.
We can’t wait until we can start welcoming dogs and visitors to our beautiful sanctuary. We still have so much to do and every donation is greatly appreciated. We are so grateful to all of our donors who have helped us make this dream a reality!! Thank you so much!

Gracie is a sweet 15 year old angel who was just saved from being euthanized. She is in desperate need of a foster in the West LA area.
Gracie is potty trained, loves kids, and is just the most loving pup. Gracie is blind, but that doesn’t matter to her. She sees with her heart.
If you would like to open your home to Gracie, please fill out our adoption application!
This is Bodhi! Isn’t he just adorable?!

Bodhi is a sweet, social, smart 3 year old little boy! He loves kids, cats, dogs, and just about everyone. He knows tons of commands like dance and come! He is just a true gem!
So how did Bodhi end up at Second Chance Cocker Rescue? Poor boy. Bodhi unfortunately has a tumor in his mouth that is pretty bad and is causing him some pain. His owner couldn’t afford the care he needs to give him a fighting chance, so they did what was best for Bodhi and got him to someone who could help him. Bodhi has been seen by a vet and we are anxiously awaiting biopsy results.
In the meantime, Bodhi is resting comfortably in a loving foster home. He is getting the pain meds he needs and he is enjoying all of the attention being given to him. Through all of this, Bodhi’s sweet and gentle nature shines through. We are dedicated to giving him everything he needs for as long as he’s with us.
How can you help Bodhi? Great question!
We know his medical treatment for the tumor in his mouth will be very expensive. If you have even just a dollar to spare, you can help make a difference for Bodhi. If you’d like to donate to Bodhi’s medical care, here’s how you can help:

Can’t donate today? That’s ok. Please like and share this post on Facebook or Instagram. Let’s get as many people to see Bodhi as possible. The more people who see him, the more help we can get him!
Thank you so much to all of our SCCR friends for being by our side as we save another life!!! We love you all!!

Hailey is one of the 14 dogs we have in boarding right now.
This little girl is full of energy. She will thrive in a female only home where she can be the center of attention. No other dogs or kids for this girl. She needs a patient person who is willing to put in the time and effort to train her and help Hailey become the best dog she can be.
Please consider donating to Hailey’s boarding costs while we are all in quarantine.
We are accepting applications for Hailey’s adoption as well. We’d love to find a forever home for her to go to once all of the restrictions are lifted.

Twinkie has been with SCCR since March, 2019 and he has been waiting way too long for his forever home!
Twinkie adores spending quality time with his special person. Twinkie is a very sweet boy who loves people. He has a little trouble seeing and hearing as he’s gotten older, but that doesn’t stop him. He would do best as an only dog in a calm home. Twinkie is about 11 years old now and is eligible for our sanctuary program.
Twinkie is one of the 14 dogs we have in boarding right now. If you can help sponsor Twinkie during this COVID-19 quarantine, we’d greatly appreciate it. Every donation of $50 or more will get a photo of Twinkie as a thank you. (To get your photo, please make sure you note your donation is for Twinkie and send us your address.)

Hi friends! We just want to take a moment to touch base with everyone and let you all know what’s going on with Second Chance Cocker Rescue right now. Currently our volunteers are all doing their part to stay safe at home and hope that our SCCR friends are doing the same. We appreciate your support and understanding during this difficult time.
In accordance with the guidelines set forth by numerous county and state health officials, we are placing a hold on moving any dogs from their current locations. This includes adoptions, fosters, and any incoming dogs (both owner surrenders and shelter pulls). Emergencies will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
During this time, we will have 14 dogs in boarding while waiting for their forever homes. This includes our 4 medical needs dogs, Heidi, Blair (these two girls were in our last post), Theodore, and Winston.
Winston is struggling with a nasty case of giardia. Poor guy is feeling really unwell and we are doing everything we can to get him healthy again.

Theodore has a mystery fungal issue that we are treating. When he was getting a haircut, we noticed a lump on his chest. We got it looked at and the contents the vet aspirated from it came back as fungal. Unfortunately all of the tests we’ve run have come back negative. We are making sure to be extra thorough and we are doing everything to find out what is going on with Theodore. On top of all of this, the poor guy is eating like crazy and not gaining weight. What a medical puzzle he is!

All of our dogs will continue to receive exceptional care and love. If you can help at all with our $2,800/month boarding bill (which includes food, training, vet visit transportation, socialization, and endless love) or our medical bills for Heidi, Blair, Theodore, or Winston, please click on the donate button. Every little bit helps.
For all of the other dogs in our care, we will continue to accept foster/adoption applications and will continue to screen them per our usual process. Waitlists will be compiled for dogs and we will resume showing dogs once restrictions are lifted. If you would like to submit your application please do so via this link.
Thank you all so much for everything you do to help us continue to save Cocker Spaniels!!! We love you all!!! Stay safe and well!!
