About a week ago we got a call from the founder of World of Angels Foundation. She lives here in the states, but has a network or people all over Asia saving dogs from the dog meat trade, as well as other bad situations. She contacted us because they had a precious little cocker who was being held in a ‘police pound’. Apparently these are terrible places where they don’t even feed the dogs. They are kept there until they are sold into the meat trade, or die of starvation……whichever comes first. This little cocker, Belle, had a huge bulging eye from glaucoma and it couldn’t wait to be taken care over here. The founder of the organization had the surgery done there. We told them, yes we will take her into rescue here in California. Well, the little angel flew into LAX on Thursday and now we have her. She is an adorable little bundle of fluff and her other eye does not look good. She is blind, so chances are she has glaucoma in the remaining eye as well and we will see what the vet says next week. She is a lovely red girl and about 6 years old. She is still a bit traumatized from her long journey and is seriously attached to the crate she flew to the states in. She wants to be in her crate, or on top of it. That is her safe place. We’ve got her coming out of it quickly, and she is eating well now, but this is going to take a little time to decompress this girl. When she does come out of her crate (door is open 24/7), when she hears your voice, her little butt wiggles a hundred miles an hour. Can you even imagine flying all the way from Seoul (where her foster home was) to LAX by yourself and blind? I am traumatized just thinking of how scary it must have been for her. When you pick her up and carry her, she wraps her front legs around your arm so tightly you would think it was a person.
We will get better pictures as soon as possible and update you after her vet check on Tuesday. All we can tell you now, is she is 100% precious. Chances are we will have to either chemically ablate the other eye, or remove it entirely. We understand that some of you may not want to donate towards a dog from another country. We understand that with so many dogs in our local shelters. But when someone asks us to take a cocker, we respond. We feel fortunate that we were able to take this little girl on and ultimately find her a forever home where she will be safe for the rest of her life. She does fine with other dogs and was even good with the transporters young child.
